World Bank votes $200m for Fadama poverty alleviation project

TO boost its objective of assisting in reducing poverty at the grassroots and sustain its investment in agriculture through the Third National Fadama Development Project (NFDP), the World Bank is set to give additional $200 million to some benefitting states of NFDP in the country.
The Bank’s Country Director, Mrs. Marie Francoise Marie-Nelly, who spoke in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital Tuesday, stated that the additional funds were approved because the Bank was impressed about the progress of the project in Ogun and the other benefiting states.
She spoke during a “Mini-Country Performance Portfolio Review Meeting” to assess progress in project implementation and contribution to the delivery of desired development objectives.

The review, she said, would assist the performance of the portfolio at the state level.
She stressed: “Using a state level lens for the review will engender a more coordinated response and provide a cohesive framework to identify and address issues”.
Marie-Nelly explained that their expectation was to make sure that there was greater involvement of state government and the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in monitoring portfolio results and urged the federal, state and the local governments to continue to support the project.
The World Bank boss disclosed that the methodology of the Country Performance Portfolio Review (CPPR) included field visit to selected project sites, discussions in plenary and in groups and development of an action plan to improve on what they had on ground.
