Ogun Police arrest 1,340 suspected criminals

The Ogun State Police Command yesterday gave the scorecard of the command’s performance since January till date, putting the number of suspects arrested for various offences at 1, 340.
Briefing journalists at the state headquarters of the force, Eleweran, Abeokuta, the state Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye attributed the command’s achievements to the support of the people.
Giving details of the command’s performance, Okoye said the force had arrested 150 armed robbery suspects, 27 suspected cultists, seven suspected kidnappers, three rape suspects and 1153 other suspects for various criminal offences.
He added that the command also killed 24 suspected armed robbers, while he stated that the command recovered 74 arms and 557 ammunition from the various suspected criminals.
The commissioner also disclosed that 319 suspects had been charged to court, 364 prosecuted and 23 suspects convicted.
Okoye, who assured residents of continuous protection of lives and property also disclosed that the command had recovered property valued at N55 million.
He further dismissed reports that suspected cultists were been released by the command, stressing that all cultists arrested had being charged to court.
The police chief said the police had always been responding to calls by the public on activities of cultists, adding that the state command had been responding to calls from divisional police officers and police area commanders across the state on cult activities.
His words: “As far as I am concerned, no cultist arrested by this command had been set free, any cultist arrested here must be charged to court.
“We have never arrested a cultist and let him free, after all, we are here to protect lives and property, why should we now let a criminal go scot free? It has never happened and it won’t happen.”
