Ogun Pledges Support For Adequate Child Care

The Ogun State Government has reassured that it would not relent in its efforts towards supporting endeavours, initiatives and programmes channelled towards making living better for children in the State.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Barrister Yusuph Olaniyonu gave the state government’s assurance today in Abeokuta at a press conference commemorating the Day of the African Child tagged “Eliminating Harmful Social and cultural practices Affecting Children: Our responsibility”.
He said the government believes that every child has the right to live, have access to qualitative education and be given an opportunity to enjoy a decent and comfortable life.
Olaniyonu said that the State Government have placed a high premium on activities and programmes to promote the survival, protection and development of children as well as family harmony towards eradicating juvenile delinquency.
Aside this, he said government had been unrelenting in the pursuance of its stance on the provision of affordable health care delivery system and qualitative education
He noted that as a demonstration of its passion for the children, the State Government had embarked on the rehabilitation of dilapidated primary health centres, schools and construction of 26 model schools across the 20 Local Government Areas of the State.
Speaking on the theme of the celebration, Olaniyonu enjoined that all hands must be on the deck to eliminate all harmful social and cultural practices including child abuse and female genital mutilation affecting children, saying that child abuse, physical torture, ignoring children’s needs and lack of supervision put them in dangerous situations and expose them to danger.
