Two controversial village heads in Adeaga community of Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State have been dethroned for possessing two certificates of appointment each, issued to them separately by two paramount rulers from separate towns.
According to the state government, the two village heads were suspended to avoid communal clashes stemming from the separate approvals from the paramount rulers.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Muyiwa Oladipo, ordered the two men- Femi Olatidoye and Ganiu Ogunlalu – who claimed to have been appointed by the Alake of Egbaland, Adedotun Gbadebo and also by the Olowu of Owu, Adegboyega Dosunmu, to stop parading themselves as village heads.
At a peace meeting attended by the Olowu and the Olu of Itori, Fatai Akamo, who represented the Alake, Mr. Oladipo said both men lied about their family lineage and gave misleading oral tradition in order to achieve their selfish interests. He noted that these distortions were capable of causing confusion in the community, adding that the present administration would not condone any act that could destabilize the peaceful co-existence of its people and throw the entire state into communal crisis.
“The present situation had already generated a lot of communal upheaval and misgivings from both families which had to be averted quickly,” Mr. Oladipo said. “If they had continue to parade themselves as Baales amidst such tension is high, it would have eventually led to a communal clash.”
