Civil defence retrains 100 officers

No fewer than 100 superintendent cadre officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have undergone training in surveillance, peace and conflict resolution as well as intelligence gathering as part of the efforts to combat crimes in the country.
The Provost of the Civil Defence College of Security Management, Mr.Adekunle Elesin, said this during the passing out parade of a batch of the NSCDC officers.
He said the officers had been undergoing the retraining course in the college located in Abeokuta, Ogun State in the past one month.
Elesin pointed out that the retraining programme for the officers was in fulfilment of the provisions of the NSCDC (Amended) Act of 2007 which mandates the corps to efficiently carry out the functions set out in it such as organising training and re-training courses among others.
The provost stressed that the just concluded retraining was just the beginning and a glimpse of the modalities put in place to achieve the mission statement of the corps.
Elesin added that the NSCDC was also moving towards stamping out crime and guarantee safety of all citizens through intelligence report gathering.
The provost of the college however noted that although the training was not meant for arms handling, it had availed the participants the opportunity to grasp basic knowledge on stripping and assembling of rifles and ammunition, a skill which might be useful to them on the field of operations.
He said, “NSCDC is rapidly equipping its personnel to stamp out crime and guarantee safety of all government properties especially the critical installations such as power transmission lines, oil pipelines and also baking our officers to become professional intelligence report gathering officers who would be sent on assignment and return with solution(s) to the existing problems.”
The commandant therefore urged the officers to always strive to distinguish themselves from untrained and disgruntled security personnel who intimidate civilians and engage in negative activities.
Elesin described discipline in a regimented organisation as the act of doing the right thing with little or no supervision.
Also speaking on the occasion, the NSCDC Assistant Commandant General for the Zone F, Mr. Amujare Jacob, urged the newly trained officers to perform their duties with loyalty, integrity and discipline.
