India now ahead of US in purchase of Nigeria’s crude oil

The Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Mahesh Sachdev, has said that India is now ahead of the United States of America in the purchase of crude oil from Nigeria.
The  high commissioner, who disclosed this while on a courtesy call on the Niger State governor, Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu, at the Government House in Minna on Wednesday, said recent statistics showed that India had been buying more of Nigeria’s crude oil  than the US government over the last three months.
Mr Sachdev also said that bilateral trade between Nigeria and India had hit 10billion dollars while India’s investment in the country was valued at $16.6billion.
The envoy said that India will continue to cooperate with Nigeria to improve its economy, adding that India will assist Nigeria in the capacity building of workers in both the public and private sectors.
He said to reduce unemployment in Nigeria, the Indian government was now partnering with the Kano State government for the establishment of a film city.
adding that his country will also collaborate with the Niger State government to establish health care facilities and assist in improving agriculture as well as embarking on vocational training of youths towards achieving self employment.
In his remarks, Governor Babangida Aliyu commended India for being one of the few countries that had kept faith with the policy of strengthening the civil service, saying that the retention of the policy has helped the country to develop in all ramifications.

Dr Aliyu therefore urged Nigeria to take qa cue from India for the rapid economic development of the country adding that if peace prevailed in all parts of the country the economy will be revived
