Nigeria: Nce Orders Neco to Release Certificates

The National Council on Education has directed the National Examinations Council (NECO) to release senior secondary school certificates still in its possession.
NECO has not released original certificates of students who sat for its examinations since 2008.
NCE, the highest decision making body of the education sector, in a communique released after its 59th meeting in Abuja, directed that NECO must produce all outstanding certificates before the council's next meeting in Ogun State.
The council said after clearing its backlog, NECO must start releasing certificates routinely before conducting examinations.
In the communique, NCE also directed the National Universities Commission (NUC) to sanction universities that charge above the approved post-UTME fee of N2,000.
It also approved that admission ratio of students in science and trade subjects into technical colleges should be 30:70 respectively and every student in federal and state science and technical colleges must offer a technical subject.
The council also directed NUC, the National Board for Technical Education and the National Commission for Colleges of Education to ensure that all lecturers in tertiary institutions possess teaching qualifications in conformity with the National Policy on Education (NPE).
