Ogun, Bank of Indurstry train 1000 youths on business ideas, disburse N250m loan

One thousand unemployed graduates were on Thursday in Abeokuta trained on entrepreneurial skills as well as basic knowledge to run and manage successfully small or medium enterprises by Ogun State Government and Bank of Industry (BoI).
 Besides the training, a sum of N250 million loan facilities at seven percent interest rate were disbursed to the 1000 participants at the conclusion of the one day workshop through the BoI loan scheme for unemployed graduates.
The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr Bimbo Ashiru, said the entrepreneurial training and development skills was aimed at tackling the unemployment in the state, empower the youth to be independent and employers of labour rather than job seekers.
Ashiru who spoke at the workshop said it was also an avenue to impact basic knowledge of generating good business ideas, writing good business plans, starting businesses, modern marketing strategies, book keeping and accounting on the beneficiaries.
He  explained that beneficiaries of the loan facilities were youth known to belong to verifiable cooperatives, had certificate of attendance of  the one day workshop and having a good business plans, among others.
He advised the beneficiaries of the loan to show sincerity and determination towards the success of the scheme and equally charged them to demonstrate a high sense of diligence, be goal oriented and to take advantage of the opportunities presented by workshop.
Managing Director of BoI, Mrs Elveyn Oputu, who was represented by the bank's General Manager, Mr Muhammed Ganiu, assured that BoI was ready to assist the youth in any way to actualize their goals.
According to her, the youth should see the programme as an opportunity to impact positively on their lives and others and not to make money.
